Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Thursday night that he is postponing the Senate recess and calling the Senate back into session on Tuesday with the stated purpose of debating the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, Rachel Maddow reported.
Schumer said should Republicans choose to filibuster the debate of the bill, the Senate will review options to circumvent the filibuster.
Schumer had stated he wanted to have a vote on the bill before Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, which is celebrated as a national holiday on Monday.
