As tensions continue along the Ukraine-Russian border, the Pentagon has put 8,500 troops on alert to be ready to deploy to Europe should their presence be needed to dissuade Russian aggression, the Associated Press reports.
The troops could be part of a NATO “response force” the alliance would command to various locations in Eastern Europe to stabilize the region and deter further aggressive moves by Vladimir Putin by demonstrating US commitment to its European allies.
