Elon Musk offered 19-year-old college freshman Jack Sweeney of Florida $5,o0o to shut down the Twitter account @ElonJet, which tracks the movements of Musk’s private jet, but that apparently wasn’t enough of an incentive, CNN reports.
Musk personally asked him (via DM) to delete the account calling it a security risk. When Sweeney countered with an offer of $50,000 that he would use for college and maybe a Tesla 3. Musk backed away from the text exchange, saying he didn’t feel right about paying money to shut the account down.
Sweeney, who set up the account using bots to track public records, has about a dozen other similar accounts for celebrities like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. Sweeney advised Musk on software that he can use to block tracking of his flight information.
