The Penske Racing Team delivered the car rookie Austin Cindric will in the exhibition Busch Light Clash to the track in Los Angeles, California via a fully-electric tractor trailer, the first time an electric vehicle is officially being used by a NASCAR team, the Associated Press reports.
The Freightliner truck, known as the eCascadia, was bedecked in the same color scheme as Cindric’s #2 Ford car with a blue and silver motif. At NASCAR races, the team trucks and merchandise promoting the cars are big attractions.
“We’re committed to leading our industry in the transition to commercial electric vehicles and providing increasingly more sustainable truck options to our customers,” said Art Vallely, president of Penske Truck Leasing. “We continue to test new and innovative vehicles in our fleet, and we have been impressed with the performance of these Freightliner vehicles.”
The eCascadia will transport the Ford 50 miles to the track in Los Angeles from the Penske headquarters in Ontario, California and then back, an easy journey given the truck’s 250 mile range on a single charge.
