An investigation by the Federal Election Commission found that Rhode Island Republican loser H Russel Taub had illegally sought help from the Russian GRU to find dirt on his opponent Congressman David Cicilline during their 2016 campaign, the Providence Journal reports. In a 2016 Twitter message, Taub had asked notorious Russian prick Guccifer 2.0 “I could use your help to defeat cicilline.” In July 2019 Taub was sentenced to three years in a federal prison over an unrelated PAC scam in which he conned Republican donors out of over $1 million, the bulk of which he spent on strippers, prostitutes, and other vices. It is unclear if he’s been released yet.
