Two Russian soldiers died and hundreds were sickened after eating pies and other goods fed to them by Ukrainian locals in the town of Izium near Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, effectively incapacitating an entire enemy division, the UK Evening Standard reports.
The two soldiers died immediately after eating the pies, and more than two dozen remain in intensive care. An additional 500 troops were being treated for severe alcohol poisoning, likely coming from beverages and spirits spiked with a lethal chemical. The move virtually decimated the 3rd Motor Rifle Division, which has 10,000 men.
Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine released a statement about the action: “According to available information, local residents of the Izium district (Kharkiv region) ‘treated’ Russians from the 3rd Motor Rifle Division of the Russian Federation with poisoned pies. As a result, two occupiers died at once, another 28 were taken to the intensive care unit. Their current state is being clarified. About 500 more servicemen of the 3rd Motor Rifle Division of the Russian Federation are in hospitals due to severe alcohol poisoning of unknown origin.”
