The bride and the caterer she hired for her celebration have been arrested and charged with two felonies after getting the guests at the bride’s wedding stoned by serving them cannabis-infused food at the reception, the New York Times reports.
After the meal celebrating Andrew and Danya Svoboda’s nuptials, the guests started feeling various things: an uncle of the groom started feeling his heart racing. Others felt nauseated; one woman thought her heart was stopping.
When asked by a guest if she had spiked the olive oil put on guests tables to dip bread, Danya Svoboda nodded and giggled. But the laughing (mostly) stopped when one of the guests needed an ambulance.
The ambulance crew responded to a call of a guest being sick to find most of the 50 guests saying they felt ill. They called the local police in, and they collected the food that had been discarded by the caterer, Joycelyn Bryant, 31.
Svoboda, 42, of Longwood, Fla., and the caterer were both charged with two felonies for serving the guests cannabis-infused foods without their knowledge and permission. When asked if the couple had consented to having pot used in their meal, Mr. Svoboda stared blankly at the officers for an extended moment and then responded, “Ah, n… No.”
His new bride, however, had told others that she and Bryant were both in on the “gag.” One guest had to be hospitalized.
