MAGAmerica largely fine with gropey, racist, homophobic, transphobic, anti-semitic candidates: Politico/Morning Consult poll

The newest Politico/Morning Consult survey asked respondents a series of questions “Consider if a candidate for political office did the following. Would it be a major problem for that candidate to earn your support, a minor problem, or would it not be a problem?” with each transgression separately and man did 2020 Trump voters show their true colors yet again.

27% of Trump 2020 voters said “accused of making transphobic remarks” was “not a problem”, 38% a “minor problem”, and 25% a “major problem”, versus 6%, 23%, and 65% respectively for Biden voters. 12% of Trump 2020 voters said “accused of anti-semitism” was “not a problem”, 28% said it’s a “minor problem”, 48% a “major problem”, versus 4%, 17%, and 72% respectively for Biden voters and even that’s probably inflated by the kind of MAGA asshole who thinks legitimately criticizing Israel is the same thing as anti-semitism. 25% of Trump 2020 voters said “accused of making homophobic remarks” was “not a problem”, 41% said it’s a “minor problem”, 25% a “major problem”, versus 4%, 19%, and 70% respectively for Biden voters. 15% of Trump 2020 voters said “accused of making racist remarks” was “not a problem”, 40% said it’s a “minor problem”, 37% a “major problem”, versus 4%, 12%, and 79% respectively for Biden voters.

4% of Trump 2020 voters said “accused of domestic violence” was “not a problem”, 23% said it’s a “minor problem”, 66% a “major problem”, versus 1%, 12%, and 82% respectively for Biden voters. 6% of Trump voters said “sexual misconduct or abuse” was “not a problem”, 22% said it’s a “minor problem”, 66% a “major problem”, versus 3%, 9%, and 84% respectively for Biden voters.

All of this makes it seem almost like Republican voters have more experience dealing with such accusations being leveled against their candidates than Democrats do. It also raises the question of if these kind of accusations actually turn MAGA voters off from supporting candidates accused of malevolent and abusive behavior, or if they just look at it like a “Well I don’t give a shit what he done said about Jews and colored people or what he done to his wife, but some socialist Demorat could win if he’s nominated so I’m votin’ for the other Republican” sort of situation.

On a separate note in the poll, the Dems lead Republicans 43 to 42 on the Generic Congressional ballot, with 16% undecided – this is unchanged from last week. You would think that if Republicans are guaranteed to take the House like all the doomers are saying it would be something like 5% or more with the GOP in the lead, especially considering Dems led 41-37 on the Politico/Morning Consult generic ballot in April 2018 and took 41 seats that November. Shouldn’t there be more of a clear lead or even, you know, an actual lead for the Republicans in this poll?
