The Republican-dominated Alaskan legislature settled on a payout of $3,200 per resident from the state’s annual seizure of royalties from the revenues of oil companies operating in the state, the Associated Press reports.
The conservative leaders were debating a calculation that would have provided checks of $3,800 of the seized private-corporation revenue, but those Republicans decided that the government would require a larger portion of the seized revenues to expand government services.
The value of the check skyrocketed from just over $1,100 last year to nearly triple thanks to elevated gas prices which consumers all over the country pay.
