In an effort to speed production and adoption of solar panel units in the United States, President Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to assist American companies and revoked tariffs against solar panels from four Asian countries to fulfill current needs, Reuters reports.
Tariffs against Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam will be lifted to serve as a “bridge” for manufacturers and installers here in the United States while American companies ramp up production. Products from those four countries can account for up to 80% of US imports within the solar industry.
“With a stronger clean energy arsenal, the United States can be an even stronger partner to our allies, especially in the face of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s war in Ukraine,” the White House said in a statement.
