In a letter describing damage from some storms inflicted on her state last month, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a Conservative who doesn’t believe in handouts, asked President Biden for a $6.7 billion handout to pay for the damage. Noem, who probably also believes government spending is the number one cause of inflation, evidently doesn’t mind more inflation if it means some roads in the middle of her sparsely populated state might get fixed. It’s not clear why South Dakota can’t just pull itself up by its bootstraps and fix the damage themselves, or just deal with it.
