Jim Jordan’s Justification: How Republicans ignore the truth in their ongoing efforts to be absolute dicks about everything

Everyone knows that Jim Jordan is a self-important ass.  He doesn’t do anything without a political angle to it.  His brand is supporting anything with an (R) behind it and dragging down anything supported by Democrats.  And this even covers when a normal person would show empathy and compassion for a 10-year-old pregnant rape victim.

As the above clip shows, Jordan claims that he never doubted the story of a child who was forced to leave Jordan’s state of Ohio to go to Indiana to receive an abortion after being raped and impregnated by a 27-year-old man.  There’s no evidence that Jordan ever checked the story out:  he apparently never checked in with his district office to see if the girl was from his district, or even if there was a police report or child welfare report about the victim.  He decided it was politically inconvenient to his Party because the optics of a 10-year-old rape victim having to flee across state lines to terminate a forced pregnancy isn’t the narrative the GOP wants to defend.

Confronted about why his office deleted a tweet in which he called the child’s story a lie, Jordan claims he never doubted the girl’s story–which is an obvious lie–but more cynically, Jordan give away the game:  “I never doubted the child.  I was responding to a headline from ah, from your profession which happens all the time on Twitter.  Um, doubted Joe Biden which is usually a smart thing to do.”

Look at what Jordan says:  he’s blaming the media for reporting the story and saying that he’s no better than a Twitter troll scanning headlines and not reading stories.  Worse, he’s a member of Congress and the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee.  He has resources that could have confirmed the story, but instead, he listened to the fact-deficient conservative pundits and only read the headlines.

So for him, it’s not about helping a possible constituent or even doing the right thing for a 10-year-old rape victim.  It’s about scoring points with his base.  It was about political advantage.  It wasn’t about justice.  It wasn’t about honesty.  It was about how he could oppose a stance by the President from the opposing Party because that’s the only thing the GOP does now.

Until they learn that governing is about doing what’s in the best interest of the governed–regardless of politics–Republicans will continually be stuck in an anti-democratic (note:  small d) mindset where whatever they want is just the opposite of what Joe Biden and the Democrats want.

Helping a pregnant 10-year-old rape victim should be apolitical.  Finding out if the story is true before calling a rape victim a liar is the responsible thing to do.  The current attitude of Republicans like Jordan is dragging down the nation.  Jordan is dragging down the country because what he wants is division.  What the nation needs is leadership.  What the nation needs is to get rid of Jim Jordan.
