Using a Telegram channel labeled “Hunting and Fishing,” 16,000 supporters of right-wing former president and current Florida Man Jair Bolsonaro distributed invitations to the January 8th coup attempt in Brasilia, thinly hiding their intent by calling the event a “party,” Politico reports.
On the now-deleted channel, one of the files distributed was a map with 46 pins at various locations around Brazil. The pins corresponded to the transportation hubs where participants could get buses to participate. Another post was an “invitation” saying, “Children and the elderly aren’t invited. Only adults willing to participate in all the games, including target shooting of police and robbers, musical chairs, indigenous dancing, tag, and others.”
Federal prosecutors in Brazil are monitoring social media platforms and capturing information that circulated before participants can delete posts that might be used in future investigations and prosecutions. No word if they’re looking for Steve Bannon’s social media accounts. Yet.
