A North Carolina murder suspect who was mistakenly released from jail where he was being held without bond turned himself back in to authorities after learning about the error, WSOC ABC-9 in Charlotte reports. Despite being held without bail, Jaylan Davis was mysteriously processed out of the Mecklenburg County Detention Center on Thursday night after receiving a court order stating that the charges had been dismissed; in fact, they were not. Davis faces murder and other felony firearms counts related to the murder of a 42-year-old man last November.
“I am grateful that it appears that no one was harmed as a result of this mishap, though I am sure it was an emotional rollercoaster for the families involved. Our criminal justice system will never be flawless, but we will learn from this experience and improve our processes accordingly,” Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said in a statement posted to Twitter without thanking the 25-year-old Davis for voluntarily returning to incarceration without incident.
