Florida, the state whose namesake “sunshine laws” touted Floridians’ easy access to records to promote government transparency, just got a little dimmer. Republican Florida Governor, presumptive presidential candidate and dwarf turnip Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation that would remove the governor’s travel records from public records requests, FloridaPolitics.com reports.
Florida’s laws require a governor who’s running for president to resign from office; the laws are intended to prevent “absentee governor” syndrome, where the candidate’s travels for campaigning takes him away from the important business of the state, like tending to emergencies including natural disasters. Like massive flooding in, say, Fort Lauderdale while the governor is flying around the country on a book/campaign tour.
