- Last week, we noted that HBO decision to rebrand as Max was a bad idea. While I stand by that statement, Elon Musk just committed the biggest rebranding error in the history of American marketing.
- Mark my words: weeks after Ron DeSantis drops out of this presidential race, he will call for a socialized federal insurance fund to cover homeowner losses to hurricanes. He will need to socialize the insurance industry because his regulations have hopelessly dismantled it. Oh, and the fact that Florida is just a money pit thanks to stupid people who build houses in flood plains.
- Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss were targeted in a vile racist way by Trump and his supporters, but by Rudy Giuliani most heinously. His racism wasn’t dogwhistled; it was bullhorned.
- Isn’t it odd that you never hear of a doctor supporting the vaccine AND claiming ivermectin could cure Covid? It’s like they refer to two different sciences to reach their conclusions.
- Greg Gutfeld claims Jews learned “life skills” in concentration camps so they were killed. Those aren’t life skills; those are survival skills that become a struggle for food, water, shelter and the other basics of life. It’s exactly what Republicans want for the lowest income levels in the US.
- Impeachment managers should have to take an oath that all evidence they are about to present meets judicial standards for veracity and truth; if they present unconfirmed evidence, they can be charged with perjury. (They may take an oath above their oath of office, I don’t know. I can’t find confirmation one way or another.) That oath would change the way some Republican vote for impeachment for fear that they would be called on to argue it. It would not change how any Democrats would vote in a proposed Biden impeachment or did vote in either Trump impeachment.
- Republicans are slavery-endorsing, national security risking, felony abetting Party led by a man who doesn’t feel he’s accountable to anyone for anything–exactly the opposite of the accountability our Founders intended.
- Four years ago, Marge was running a moderately-popular CrossFit in north Georgia, delving into QAnon conspiracies and reportedly having a series of affairs with members and staff. Now she’s screwing the nation.
- Mitch McConnell’s “stroke” or “episode” or whatever you want to call it, isn’t a laughing matter. As with Dianne Feinstein, an incident like that means its time to step away. Damn your pride; you’ll be remembered for your sacrifice for the nation.
- A good piccata-style sauce–lemon, garlic, capers, butter, maybe white wine–is my go-to sauce. Fish, chicken, shrimp, even steak. It works with everything. Looking for a sauce to try with the excess squash from the garden? It works–and it tastes good cold, too.
- Unpopular opinion: The judge in the Biden case did exactly what a judge should do. It became clear that the defendant was not on the same page as the prosecutor about the precise terms of the deal, so to protect everyone’s interest, she delayed “sealing the deal.” I’m not a conspiracy theorist; it wasn’t done for political purposes.
- The Trump judge should be thanked by the GOP–sincerely, I mean, because she helped them avoid an embarrassment. The deal, written by a Trump-appointed US Attorney, was apparently structured so poorly, Hunter Biden may have gotten accidental immunity in a way similar to how Ollie North got off. Biden’s appointees were completely out of this process.
- They ran a story about if it was safe to shower in a thunderstorm. The Hill ran a story on if it’s safe to shower in a thunderstorm. The Hill did that. What the fuck happened over there?
- Many people make cries for attention. They’re sad, and they’re desperate and yes, sometimes they’re criminal. But the magnitude of the tragedy gets amplified by unending media coverage. It’s a local story. Keep it that way.
- Went down the Thelonius Monk rabbit hole on YouTube. It was well worth it. Came out the other side with a new appreciation of Bill Evans, with a side trip to a Dave Brubeck set along the way. Sometimes you need that trip.
- I would urge Mitch McConnell to use a wheelchair full-time for his own safety, but I understand Republicans would see such people as weak and incapable. They’ve mocked Tammy Duckworth repeatedly. They slandered Vietnam decorated veteran Max Cleland so badly he left politics.
- First time I’ve ever prepped a partially complete list because of a pending lightning storm. Maybe I finished; maybe I didn’t. You’ll never know.
