- DeSantis “resets” are becoming as frequent as Trump’s “Infrastructure Weeks” and just as meaningless.
- Everybody has the right to a fair trial, including the public. Attempting to taint the jury pool and intimidate witnesses are serious crimes because they deny society an honest application of justice, not just the defendant and not just the victims.
- The world owes a big thank you to DJ Kool Herc. The last half-century wouldn’t have been the same without you.
- I welcome Hunter’s Special Counsel. Find the evidence of a crime and present it. The Special Counsel statute requires a public report to be made at the end of it all. This puts these sham hearings hosted by Republicans into focus: they keep claiming they have damning evidence, and now they’ll be forced to release it or admit they have nothing.
- Congratulations, Ohio. This is what democracy looks like. If you throw off your gerrymandering Republicans, you can enjoy more of it.
- A bunch of boaters in Alabama decided to exercise their white privilege and found something out. I am not an advocate for mob violence in any regard, but if somebody thought they could get away with beating a security guard after docking their dinghy at a commercial boat’s pier, well, y’know… they gonna find something out.
- Conservatives are losing their culture wars at the ballot box. Voters reject the bigotry. Watch for renewed pushes to pass their anti-liberty dicta against LGBTQ people and health care choice moving to a national level, where they can manipulate media easily. Remember: it’s not about winning the issue; it’s about enraging the base.
- Lawrence O’Donnell periodically outperforms Fox’s competing circus hosted by Greg Gutfeld since Gutfeld’s shift to 10 p.m. Also, MSNBC’s “evening” line-up (from 5 to 8 p.m. ET) regularly beats Fox “in demo.” Fox is in a fight for its network identity.
- It’s amazing how a member of the President’s family can be under federal investigation and you don’t hear one of the President’s supporters cry that it’s unfair and the end of democracy. Now, I mean. Not before. Before, when the First Family was found to be running a fraudulent “university” scamming thousands, their supporters claimed that was political.
- None of Jack Smith’s–nor any of the Department of Justice’s–charges about January 6th so far have to do with the financials of the effort, to my knowledge. And none of them concern the fraudulent fundraising after the fact. More coming?
- A bunch of conservative, self-proclaimed straight “Christian” men are upset that a movie based on a doll designed to give girls self-confidence and aspirations doesn’t do enough to coddle their fragile egos. I’m pretty sure that means feminism won.
- There is an entire economy built around the Cult of Trump. People like Catturd and Jack Pobesic need Trump to stay relevant to keep their cash flow alive. Never forget that much of the reason for Trump’s popularity is simply greed: these people want to maintain their ability to fleece the cultists.
- A man crushed to death by wheels of cheese and a family killed by poison mushrooms. It’s a Midsomer kind of week.
- I feel sorry for Floridians. In general, of course, but specifically now that DeSantis is falling into the pack of Republican challengers, he’ll be pushed to be more authoritative in Florida to attract the vilest votes of the GOP base.
- No, grapes do not belong in chicken salad. They are a texture surprise that is neither welcome nor pleasing. Grapes belong in three places: jelly, wine and in my mouth.
- I got into hip-hop via the Sugarhill Gang, then traveled through the Beasties to Arrested Development before settling on a long-term appreciation for the Digital Underground family. Perhaps my fav: Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines.”
- Don’t hold me to that “fav” thing above. I’ll likely remember a song in five minutes and rethink my assertion. And then again, five minutes later.
