Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Wednesday encouraged fans of her Bangladeshi National Party to not vote in the upcoming January 7th parliamentary elections because they can’t trust the results from rival Awami League incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the AP reports.
Right or wrong about Awami League rigging, it’s kind of stupid for Zia to publicly tell people to fuck off from the election, at least this early on. While we don’t know shit about Bangladeshi politics, we get the sense that Hasina (interestingly enough also a woman) is more like a Marcos or Erdogan than a Putin or Lukashenko, as in she’s a scumbag autocrat leading a dominant machine rather than a straight up dictator who simply rigs elections from top to bottom and “wins” 90+ percent of the vote.
Or maybe Zia’s right and showing up would simply help legitimize a fraudulent election. Still, it sounds really MAGA to complain preemptively to the point where you guarantee your party loses.
