House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday told reporters his staff are blurring the faces out of the rioters in all 40,000+ hours of January 6th Capitol riot security camera footage “because we don’t want them to be retaliated against and be charged the DOJ,” Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman reports.
Now we’re preeeettty sure that mostly doesn’t matter that much practically because the Justice Department already downloaded all of it at like 7:00 AM on January 7th, 2021 and they’ve been combing through every second of it for nearly three years now. But that doesn’t mean that this still won’t impede prosecutions, as crowdsourced investigations by crews like Sedition Hunters led to a fair number of arrests and convictions of rioters. And that’s Johnson’s real purpose here, to stop the libs from identifying the however many insurrectionists still on the loose and tipping off the FBI.
Of course it’s hard to see any right wingers thanking him for this, since it will prevent them from “identifying” all the secret Antifa and Deep State infiltrators among the “peaceful tourists.”
