Here was soft-chinned Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen warning this week that his party’s dumpy orange slob of a presidential nominee’s relatively weak showing in the primaries – relatively as in they would’ve been absolutely apocalyptic for Biden and it’s a fair enough comparison given how Donald’s been dubbed a “quasi-incumbent” – spells trouble for him in the general election, something not even the mainstream media is really entertaining these days. In fact Politico is saying the opposite, even though you know they’d be like “OMG BIDEN IS SO FUCKED IN NOVEMBER” if Dean Phillips had put up anywhere close to the kind of numbers Nikki Haley did.
That’s Thiessen in his TV gig. In print he’s with the Washington Post, and pouring way more emotion into being down on the Orange God Emperor with a piece titled “I want to support Trump. He keeps making that harder for me,” writing “I want to vote for Donald Trump in November. The question is: Will he let me? I’m not a Never Trumper. To the contrary, I’ve spilled gallons of ink in the pages of this newspaper defending him. Based on his record in office, Trump should be considered one of the greatest conservative presidents we’ve had. But I’m deeply concerned that his second term, if he is elected this year, would not be the one that millions of Americans voted for in 2020.”
Lol.
It’s one thing to be worried about Trump’s prospects. No reason to doubt his sincerity in the Fox News clip. But to be lying to himself and readers that he isn’t going to come around sooner or later, as if he hasn’t already drafted a piece titled “I was skeptical about Trump 2024. Here’s what convinced me” to simply plug in this or that speech performance or policy proposal is like why the fuck is the Washington Post still paying this weasel just to be an “alternative voice”?
“As for me, while Jan 6, 2021, was a disgrace, the system of strong checks and balances our Founding Fathers established held that day. So, I don’t believe the hyperbolic warnings that Trump will be a dictator. I’m just worried he will let real dictators prevail. I can’t vote for that. With less than eight months to go, this much is certain: I’ll never vote for Joe Biden. He is the worst president in my lifetime. And I want to vote for Trump. But he needs to give me – and millions like me – permission to do so,” Thiessen concludes in the piece. Comparing Trump in 2024 to the Trump of 2018 is like comparing the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami to the 2011 Japan tsunami. They were both cataclysmic events that caused untold destruction and killed thousands upon thousands of people.
Trump doesn’t like dictators now any more or any less than he did while he was president. Marc Thiessen isn’t any more or any less of a fucking worm than he was while Trump was president.
