Just like this spring’s Trump Manhattan trial was to the libs, First Son Hunter Biden’s trial on federal gun charges in Delaware isn’t what the MAGA kids wanted this year, it’s what they got and for now at least will have to serve as a consolation prize for the justice each side pines for in the litany of crimes they’ve been publicly accused of. And yes of course Trump’s list of offenses are obviously much more real, numerous, and tangible than Hunter’s ever were. But roll with it: The MAGA kids argue that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg relied on a rarely-prosecuted statute and a novel legal theory for what was essentially a “paper crime.” The libs bothering to defend Hunter will say the same for his lying on a gun permit application. And we don’t need to imagine what the fucking freakout would look like if Jack Smith indicted Don Jr for the same crime as David Weiss has with Hunter.
Still, the Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe Doescher had to come up with something to go with op-ed headlined “Hunter Biden gets the fair trial denied to Donald Trump,” so she bitches about the judges, writing that even though US Judge Maryellen Noreika is a Trump appointee, she’s a 2008 Hillary-2012 Romney donor who got confirmed via “a blue slip” and got bipartisan support and blah blah blah. It’s only at the end of the piece does Doescher mention that Noreika blew up Hunter’s plea deal and forced this trial (and another in California) in the first place. Nowhere does she acknowledge that just maybe the judge’s alleged bipartisan chops would make a conviction more legitimate than the “show trial” the $35 Dem donor Judge Juan Merchan put on in New York.
“Most stark is the difference between the pretrial posture toward Trump and Hunter Biden. Whereas the prosecutors trying to keep Trump out of a second term in the White House seem to have coordinated their refusal to negotiate a plea deal that would be appropriate for a defendant who has never been indicted, let alone found guilty of, committing a crime before last year,” Doescher writes toward the end and holy fuck this asshole seriously thinks a plea deal was never on the table for Trump, that his lawyers couldn’t have played hardball and avoided the trial if the fat fuck would’ve let them. Literally the day after Trump was indicted last year now-fired lawyer Joe Tacopina told NBC there was “Zero… ZERO” chance his client would take a plea deal. If they never even TRIED then how the hell does that equate to a judge squash Hunter’s attempted plea deal? Sometimes you really need to read some of these things to fully appreciate how fucked right wing media is.
