Probably. Well it’s still up in the air whether the Nepalese Communist Party’s new governing coalition will definitely end up with their leader Khadga Prasad Oli as the new premier but it seems likely given that the AP reports current Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost a no confidence vote on Friday after the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) split from Dahal’s coalition to form a new one with the Nepali Congress Party, so the future looks very much red and socialist-y there.
Wait. Turns out Dahal is the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). And he led a decade long Maoist insurgency that killed at least 17,000 people before he was mainstreamed in peace talks with the government in 2006. So if anything that means that Nepal is already communist and it’s just Marxist-Leninism replacing Maoism as the sub-ideology. Still was a good headline. No need to change it to reflect distinctions that matter not to us freedlom-loving non-commies.
