As Vice President Kamala Harris continues to pile up delegate commitments from those previously committed to incumbent President Joe Biden, the Democratic National Committee is reportedly considering scheduling a virtual roll call vote next week to solidify Harris’s nomination, Politico reports. Harris reportedly has already secured 1,407 delegates; to win the nomination, she needs to get 1,976.
Working with the Convention Rules Committee, the Democratic Party is prepared to shift the nominating portion of the Convention to an electronic format to ensure that our Democratic nominees for President and Vice President are certified before state ballot access deadlines,” Democratic National Committee chair Jaime Harrison and Rules Committee co-chair Minyon Moore wrote in a memo, according to the Washington Post, which reports Party insiders working to avoid a contested convention in August.
