A Fulton County, Georgia judge blocked a new rule instituted by the Trump-favoring majority of the state election board which ordered precincts to hand-count ballots, a measure designed to stoke disruption and problems with the voters’ ballots to sow doubt in the outcome, NBC News reports.
Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that the requirement was implemented too close to Election Day, making it impossible to hire and train the employees needed to undertake the task and it would cause “administrative chaos.” Republicans vowed to appeal the decision because “administrative chaos” is what they actually want.
“[T]he public interest is not disserved by pressing pause here. This election season is fraught; memories of January 6 have not faded away, regardless of one’s view of that date’s fame or infamy,” the judge wrote. “Anything that adds uncertainty and disorder to the electoral process disserves the public.”
