Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, who took third place at 25 percent of the vote in Taiwan’s presidential election in January, was hit with corruption charges in September for accepting a $500,000 bribe in some real estate scam, BBC News reports on the case that is becoming public just now due to whatever vagaries of the Taiwanese political/justice system. The BBC describes Ko as a “gaffe machine” who starred in a rap video during his 2018 reelection bid. Ughhhh.
