Just to preface this: The article from CapeTownEtc.com headlined “Afrikaner family stranded in the US appeals for help after seeking refuge” does seem rather weakly sourced because it’s from a TikTok video that’s already been deleted. However you might end up feeling considerably more assured of the verisimilitude of TikToker @catpmt‘s story given that she pinned an explanatory post.
“Thank you for visiting my page. The video you have come to see has been taken down due to constant flagging by the platform for bullying. It has also caused enough damage by fanning the flames of a fire that I did not realize existed. My hope is to use this page to show the difficulties and challenges a person faces when moving country, but in a fun and educational way. The correct people have now stepped in to make sure all parties get what they need,” @catpmt wrote.
All that out of the way, CapeTownEtc reports that in the now-deleted video posted this week, @catpmt – by all appearances an native English-speaking Capetonian, and not an Afrikaner, now likely living in Montana (hence the “mt”) – described one of the MAGAfrikaner “refugee” families as being stranded in a hotel by the Trump Regime without employment or any prospects of moving out.
“They were understanding they would be arriving here for complete assistance. People thought they would be arriving at a house, a job, medical insurance, other things. It isn’t that way at all,” @catpmt said, adding “One side of me is like, ‘My husband and I went through all the red tape, and we got our visas… we’ve got our green card. We’ve been here ten years. We did everything the right way.’ Here, these people, regardless of what they were promised, just came here expecting everything.”
Probably because Trump’s minions repeatedly told the “refugees” they were getting “everything.”
Again, yes, the story’s thinly attributed and there’s zero indication of how @catpmt ascertained the family’s disposition or whether they were DEFINITELY among the 49 Afrikaners shipped over here last month. However in what universe does the Trump regime not fuck people over after it’s done using them? And in what universe would a TikToker calling attention to their plight not be harassed by MAGAmericans and/or MAGAfrikaners? One thing that’s important to note here: @catpmt’s accent sounds almost Australian, that and the site being local Cape Town news strongly suggests she’s an Anglo-Capetonian, not an ethnically Dutch Afrikaner. There’s an socioeconomic divide between the mainly urban, educated Anglos and the more rural Afrikaners which maps on pretty neatly to MAGAmerica vs Coastal/urban libs which probably factored in to the outrage and butthurt her now-deleted video stirred. So yeah, the preponderance of evidence suggests the story is real.
