Asked Wednesday by CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin “Why are we currently not getting 2.8 percent growth if what we’re talking about extending tax cuts that are already in place? What is gonna get you the 2.8 number,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer shared his secret sauce to getting growth at the pace necessary to cover the deficit wrought by the bill they’re about to pass: “Donald Trump.”
Yes, that’s what he said. “Donald Trump.”
Emmer then tried to paper over the fact that the Big Beautiful Bill HR 1 does not include the elimination on taxes on Social Security income by saying “great changes when it comes to no taxes on Social Security,” whatever the fuck that’s supposed to mean.
As of this moment his caucus is supposedly starting their first procedural vote on the bill:
Not clear is why the display says “HR 566.” It’s possible this is just a time-waster vote on something else as Emmer later told Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman there are “complications” due to flight delays into Washington which could make things more difficult “but we’ll get there.”
Oh and Jesus Dork Mike Johnson told Politico’s Meredith Lee Hill they don’t have the votes yet, saying they’re “working through everybody’s concerns and letting them know this is the best possible product we can produce,” which is MAGAspeak for “We don’t give a fuck. Vote yes or die.”
