Sur-fucking-prise: The Daily Beast reports, with confirmed photos of the podcaster outside the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, that Texas Senator Ted Cruz was in the ancient Mediterranean country on July 4th during cataclysmic flooding that has killed at least 90 of his constituents.
Now in an effort to be fair, this is not the same sin as fleeing to Cancun when the February 2021 cold snap/ice storm was already underway. It’s not like he knew it was coming or was even supposed to and he’s self-aware enough of his history to fly back apparently as soon as he could to do what he should have been doing in 2021*, even if it’s just media appearances. It’s just a bad look that an alleged “patriot” is not in Texas but in fucking Greece on America’s independence day.
(You can go back and forth all you want about what Ted Cruz’s power is in a disaster affecting his state, but the truth is he’s not the governor and has no immediate powers or responsibilities. The 2021 debacle was just a display of his level of willingness to suffer alongside voters – which was zero – rather than anything that would have had any meaningful difference on that suffering)
