Members of Peru’s Congress on Friday voted unanimously to impeach and remove the wildly unpopular corrupt idiot President Dina Boularte from office over what might have been the low-hanging fruit of incompetently handling a surge in violent crime in the Andean nation, the AP reports.
The 126 members present in the unicameral 130-seat chamber had voted first to bring up the impeachment articles and called on Boluarte to come and defend herself against the charges. She did not take them up on the offer and they promptly voted 126-0 to expel her from office.
The Congress’s president, Jose Jerí, a 38-year-old lawyer, was sworn in early Friday as the interim president to serve out Boluarte’s term, which ends on July 28th, 2026. Jeri is now the third leader in the mountainous South American nation since the last presidential election in 2021. Boluarte herself had been the veep and assumed power in Peru in 2022 to complete the term of then-President Pedro Castillo, who was removed the same way after he attempted to dissolve the Congress.
