“He has a grand master plan most of us probably don’t understand”

A series of NBC News/Enagagious/Sago focus groups of 50 Black, Latino, and young voters who voted for convicted felon President Trump in 2024 – including some who broke for Dems in Virginia and New Jersey last month – found that most still largely support the Orange Tyrant but that many are also questioning why his lies about making them rich and successful haven’t panned out.

Or not really questioning it. “I think he has a grand master plan that most of us probably don’t understand,” said 44 year-old Georgia voter Rozlyn C back in a June session, adding, “I have faith that he, a hundred percent, has the best interest of our country at heart,” lol.

It’s not clear if the grand master plan has been revealed to her since then. Three months earlier, Dorris S, 56 said she’d expected Donald “to be aggressive in a lot of different areas and he’s doing exactly that – being aggressive in a lot of different areas of focus that concern the US citizens. Every few days you’re hearing something different and you’re constantly seeing him at work, working, getting stuff done.” Dorris did not name any of that “stuff” Trump had been doing at the time.

Those were the “positive” quotes, dating back to the first half of the year. By December, 39-year-old Virginian Justin K was frustrated that Trump had “been focused on prosecuting his political enemies, pardoning people,” adding “I don’t even think that there’s much a president can do on inflation, but I think that this was a kind of situation where he just said it to get elected.” Really? You think that now, a year after you voted to return him to power? That just dawned on you recently, bro?

“It’s a bait and switch with him where he said he was for the average person but he actually favors big business, and then just does whatever he wants and there’s no consequences,” Justin continued. It’s almost as though this guy just completely tuned out from the news 2017 to 2021.

“Tariffs are a tax on the American people. That’s who pays for it, so I don’t support it,” said 47 year-old New Jerseyan David S, who voted for Mikie Sherrill last month. “Every tariff that is put in place, from when Biden is putting ‘em in place, Trump putting them in place, they are taxes on the people who are importing. The people who are buying those imports are paying the tax,” the man, who evidently was 47 years old when he learned what tariffs are, continued with his complaining.

On ICE raids and abuses, 21 year-old Wisconsin woman Katelyn R said the way that detainees “are being treated don’t align with my Christian values, or my pro-life values, or any of the values that a conservative may have.” Katelyn did not say what she thought was going to happen, as in whether there would be bouncy castles, free cotton candy, and open bars at ICE detention centers.

Trump “was going to deport people that were criminals and have backgrounds,” said Colombian-born Georgia voter Ruby L, 56, during a June focus group. “But I see that he’s deporting people that work hard and have been in this country. I think he should find a way to help them stay and get citizenship or something,” she continued. Well maybe Trump will get on legislating that next year.
