“On 1-18-2026, at approximately 2:17 pm, Lafayette Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Mill Pond Lane. Officers arrived and determined that two adults had sustained injuries from the shooting. The victims were identified as Steven Meyer and Kimberly Meyer. Mr Meyer sustained an injury to his arm, and Mrs Meyer sustained an injury to her hip. Shell casings were recovered at the scene. Both individuals received medical attention and are in stable condition.”
“This remains an active and ongoing joint investigation involving the Lafayette Police Department, Indiana State Police, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, West Lafayette Police Department, Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI,” said the Lafayette, Indiana Police Department in a statement on Monday following the Sunday afternoon shooting attack by an unknown assailant.
According to the New York Post, the shooter knocked and claimed he’d found the Meyers’ dog and then fired through the front door before it had even been opened. He then fled without being seen.
Not the New York Post but the Washington Post describe Judge Meyer as an elected Democrat who previously served on the Lafayette City Council before running for the bench. The 66 year-old jurist had recently announced his retirement after overseeing a number of high profile cases, including the abandonment of disabled Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace Barnett, which made headlines nationally.
