“Remember, both Cornyn and Tillis voted for Merrick Garland, and others too numerous to mention. I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office,” posted convicted felon President Trump on Thursday as Blanche’s confirmation process stalled amid an impasse with the two lame duck Republicans over the self-dealing provisions of the Orange God Emperor’s rigged settlement with the IRS. Lol at the “political careers have been ended by my action” part, both for being mostly true and an MSM trope being appropriated by Trump himself in his words. That is legitimately hilarious.

But on the rigged settlement: The $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” part Trump can kind of take or leave for a multitude of reasons, like the fact that he can and regularly does order his minions’ bullshit cases against the government to go effectively uncontested one-by-one.

The audit immunity side is a different story, because it extends to his corrupt shitbag sons’ crypto scam operations and, as Cornhole Cornyn said earlier, isn’t a precedent he wants set.

And then just now he responds directly to Trump’s withdrawal threat. Note how Cornhole doesn’t actually say that these “concerns” mean those other Republicans are going to vote no.

All if this is so goddamned stupid. Nothing’s stopping Trump from simply firing the IRS officials who would dare audit him or his sons. None of it stops the next Dem president from nuking that specific settlement provision – though not likely without a lot of friction in the courts. Todd Blanche is an absolute fucking scumbag and the rigged settlement doesn’t even crack the top five in reasons not to confirm him to formally be the US Attorney General – when he can remain in acting capacity until January 20, 2029. Fact is that there aren’t a whole lot of limitations to continuing as acting Attorney General, given that Blanche was already confirmed by the Senate as Deputy Attorney General and therefore is serving under the DOJ’s own succession statute. That largely voids the constraints and pushes any potential challenges to his legitimacy into uncharted legal territory.

On that note, maybe the dumbest part is Trump’s confidence that Blanche will be more confirmable after Tillis and Cornyn are gone. Lots of assumptions riding on that one. Not all of them smart.

Wait, actually Trump ripping the two for confirming Merrick Garland is the dumbest part. Garland was the best attorney general Trump ever had. He should be thanking Tillis and Cornyn for voting yes on Merrick, who would’ve been confirmed anyway. Trump very well might be in a prison cell right now if Biden had nominated Letitia James, Doug Jones, or even James Comey to be his AG.
