“Children were exposed to rabies while possibly playing with a bat at a park in Frederick, health officials said Monday evening. A bat was found at Riverwalk Park on Schifferstadt Boulevard, according to the Frederick County Health Department (FCHD). A parent called Frederick County Animal Control to come get the bat from their home on Thursday after her children and others may have played with the bat at the park,” says the lede to a WUSA9 article that does not further elaborate on what “playing with” means. Suppose we’re meant to infer that the winged mammal was sluggish enough for them to take home as though it were a pet, but maybe the station should spell that out. Otherwise it sounds kind of dark, weird, or even somehow kind of supernatural.
