A black SUV crashed through the front window of the Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts Monday morning, killing at least one person and injuring at least 15, with authorities saying multiple people trapped in the store for hours after the incident, CBS News reports.
Police have the driver in custody by have not yet arrested the unnamed individual. Police say the vehicle was driving on the lane in a shopping area when it jumped the curb and crashed into the crowded store around 11 a.m. local time Monday. People were pinned to the store wall by the vehicle or trapped under fallen debris and furniture. All those trapped have been released.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV was uninjured and is cooperating with police. “There is an active criminal investigation going on,” District Attorney Tim Cruz said. “Regarding the operator of the motor vehicle, we’re looking into that. Regarding the status of the vehicle, we’re looking into that.”
