Contrary to President Trump’s own words as recorded in interviews with the Washington Post Associate Editor Bob Woodward, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany claimed Trump “always shared facts” about the coronavirus. Trump, in fact, acknowledged to Woodward that he “wanted to always play it down,” giving a far rosier picture of the potential outcome when he was being told about the ease of transmission and fatality rates.
McEnany said Trump listened to medical professionals, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the WHO, whom McEnany blamed for Trump getting incorrect information about the virus. Famously, Trump claimed on February 26th that “within a couple of days [the number of cases] is going to be down to close to zero.”
