“Next time Puerto Rican leftists call for independence, we should just let them have it. We’d wind up saving money on the deal, too, considering that nearly half of Puerto Rico is on welfare, which is one of two reasons why Puerto Rico votes to retain its status as a territory, the other reason being American citizenship” – Top comment on the Friday New York Post article headlined “Bad Bunny and his Super Bowl halftime show just had a brush with the FCC: sources,” following up on fat fuck MAGA Congressman Randy Fine’s widely-ridiculed demand for the regulator to drop the hammer on the ultra-popular artist and NBC for broadcasting his allegedly profane lyrics to 140 million+ viewers.
The “exclusive” reporting by the Murdoch-owned Manhattan rag is so pained in its burial of what the lede would be from any real news outlet: The FCC immediately determined there’s no case and has “shelved any additional scrutiny barring further evidence,” because the Spanish vulgarities were edited out. End of story, leaving Fine and pals stuck working on their next performative outrage. In retrospect the past tense of “just had a brush” in the headline might’ve been a clue that the MAGA FCC had nothing to go on here but goddamn how hard they state media works to bury their failures.
Worth asking if the Caucasian-American commenter was aware of this disappointment and his demand that Puerto Rico be cut loose was his proposed recourse to the affront that was Bad Bunny’s halftime show. It had a certain escalatory MAGA logic to it: FCC won’t punish Bad Bunny, therefore every US citizen born on the territorial island must be denaturalized. That’s “fair” to them.

Now even if it’s a shame that this GIF so lovingly crafted with care by “Jack Forbes / NY Post Design” has all but certainly seen its final use on an article, some folks say the fail’s probably for the better with the Latino electorate. Former Trump Administration official/2024 RNC Latino community propagandist Vianca Rodriguez tells Reuters that convicted felon President Trump’s unhinged meltdown over the halftime show is going to do the party “more damage than good,” in Noviembre and it “shouldn’t have been a battle to have been picked culturally.” The wire service’s article then stipulates that Rodriguez “remains an avid Trump supporter” because the fat bastard has burned so many bridges over the years that any such criticisms need be weighted against current loyalty level.
“Everybody agrees that we wish he would hold his mouth and hold his temper and be less impulsive,” said Denise Galvez Turros, who co-founded Latinas for Trump during his 2016 bid, for who again Reuters caveats the criticism, writing a “nevertheless” that she agrees with Trump’s overall point, because… Put down your Jarritos so you don’t spew it all over your computer reading this: Turros “defended the president’s comments about Bad Bunny’s use of Spanish, saying the singer’s Puerto Rican slang and lack of enunciation can make his lyrics hard to understand.” What the fuck, lol… What? Goddamn it Reuters didn’t print a direct, verbatim quote on that because… this woman thinks Trump would’ve understood the song if only the lyrics weren’t so Puerto Rican.
Holy hell. That is – That’s a keeper. Anyway, the Reuters article is just one of several recent on the broader tormenta between El Presidente y votantes Latinos. Trump fan Mario Guerrero, the CEO of the South Texas Builders Association, tells Politico that the damage ICE has done to his industry’s labor force – and the region writ large – is bad and Republicans will feel it. “I told them straight up: South Texas will never be red again,” said Guerrero of a DC meeting with Republicans.
Corrupt South Texas Dem Henry Cuellar said Guerrero and his group had “started off with, ‘hey, we were all Trump supporters, and we thought he was going to secure the border and then kick out criminals, we just never thought that they were going to be coming after our folks, our workers, on that.’ They’re builders, contractors, lumber companies, cement companies, in the finance part of it. That type of ripple effect has hurt their economy. Not only individuals, but their economy.”
This week the Latin Times covered the shitposting between Miami-area MAGA Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar and her former colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene after the latter lost her shit over Trump endorsing Salazar for reelection despite her public struggles with her conscience.
“Marjorie, you’re starting to sound like Laura Loomer…” Salazar wrote and let’s just end it on that high note of embarrassment and chaos in that is MAGA’s frontier with the Latino electorate.
