A new report in ProPublica reveals that an FBI investigation into a cut and dry bribery scheme – in which a defense contractor had made a donation to scumbag Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins’ PAC in 2019 in exchange for millions in new contracts – was shut down in early 2025 after convicted felon President Trump returned to power and gutted the public corruption unit.
It’s kind of dense, but there’s one paragraph that can (mostly) speak for itself in summarizing what’s prooobably going to be a bigger problem for Concern Lady than a canvasser stealing an Amazon package off a voter’s porch: “Of all the politicians Navatek courted under [former CEO Martin] Kao’s leadership, Collins was its most important patron. The senator’s office steered government contracts worth millions toward the company while her campaign was pumping Kao and his network for donations, according to emails seen by ProPublica. Sometimes they cut checks within 24 hours of the annual defense spending bill, which funds military contracts, clearing a key Senate hurdle.”
Kao’s a convicted felon, having been nailed for, you guessed it, illegal campaign contributions.
