On first day of vaccinations, US eclipses 300,000 COVID deaths

The United States has exceeded 300,000 deaths due to coronavirus on the same day that the country started distributing the first available coronavirus vaccine, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus case tracker.

As of the site’s 3:26 p.m. ET update, the US had recorded 300,267 fatalities, the most in the world. The US also topped the world with more than 16 million cases.
