There’s no surprise here that the unhinged rapper’s fake presidential campaign was designed solely to split votes against Trump, but the Daily Beast has dug up some additional detail about who backed it and the potential federal campaign finance law violations that happened along the way, as Kanye 2020 failed to report paying a number of top GOP consultants – likely because they were providing their “services” completely free of charge.
“So many of these firms work for major Republican organizations, and they are not doing this for him out of the kindness of their hearts,” said Jordan Libowitz, communications director at DC watchdog CREW.”It’s pretty clear Kanye was a GOP plant, whether he knew it or not.”
Among them were Jill Vogel, a Republican Virginia state senator, and partner at Holtzman Vogel, a law firm with deep connections to Republican organizations. “The importance of disclosure in this matter can’t be overstated,” Common Cause VP Paul S Ryan told the Daily Beast “It’s no secret that Kanye West’s candidacy would have a spoiler effect, siphoning votes from Democrat Joe Biden. Voters had a right to know that a high-powered Republican lawyer was providing legal services to Kanye – and federal law requires disclosure of such legal work.” Holtzman Vogel also represented the Trump Campaign in a failed post-election lawsuit in Pennsylvania.
