With North Carolina’s primaries set for Tuesday, members of the Republican Party are actively campaigning to replace Madison Cawthorn, but if he makes it through the primary and looks to retain his seat in the heavily Republican district, CNN reports.
Sick of Cawthorn’s antics–including at least four times where he’s had run-ins with law enforcement–GOP leaders, including those from the North Carolina state delegation, have told him if he has one more disgraceful incident, they’ll vote him out of the House GOP Conference, which would severely limit his ability to rise through Party ranks.
“I met with the guy and said, ‘Don’t break the law again. You break the law one more time, I’m going to start calling for you to be kicked out,’” One Republican lawmaker close to Donald Trump said. “And I don’t mean kicked out of (the House Freedom) Caucus, I mean kicked out of Conference. Voting him out. He’s a black eye on our conference.”
