New York Attorney General Leticia James is opening an investigation into the $250 million the Trump Campaign raised from its small donors for the “Election Defense Fund” of which very little was actually spent on recounts and fighting to overturn the results in court, Insider reports. James’s office will argue they have jurisdiction over the fundraising given that New York donors were among those defrauded and the funds were channeled through banks based in the state. “If the money passed through any institution with a foot in New York, that gives her jurisdiction,” said a former investigator from James’s office who led the Trump University probe in 2014.
