A report to the FAA, newly-FOIAed by John Greenewald’s The Black Vault website, reveals that the pilot(s) of a December 19th, 2024 afternoon flight over Delaware County, Ohio spotted a “black cube” just floating in the sky, a detail omitted from the original listing in the FAA’s publicly-available database of “Drone Sightings Near Airports” of the nationwide flap that month.

From the newly FOIAed version: “Aircraft observed a black cube-shaped UAS below while W bound at 16,000 feet, 5NM W of APE. No evasive action was taken. PD notified at 740-670-5555. AWO notified. MOR Filed – Summary from CEDAR via SKYWATCH: [Redacted pilot(s) name] reported a drone passing beneath them by about 500 ft. The [Redacted again – possibly indicated a military flight] was at 16,000′. They described it as a black cube. No other information given,” which in plainer English means “A pilot flying west at 16,000 feet spotted a black cube-shaped drone about 500 feet below them, roughly 5 nautical miles west of some navigation point called ‘APE.’ The pilot didn’t need to change course to avoid it, but reported it through official channels – police were called and the airfield operations were notified, and a mandatory safety report was filed.”

It’s not clear what if anything local police did about the cube at 15,500 ft in the sky.

“The City of Laurens Police Department is investigating a case involving two juveniles in connection with break-ins at two railroad facilities in the City of Laurens – Carolina Piedmont Railroad and CSX Transportation Railroad – on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Between approximately 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the juveniles unlawfully entered the railroad facilities.
