In an interview with Fox Business News today, President Trump claimed that he’s “all for masks” and that masks are a good step in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, although he ruled out a national mandate to wear them.
In a summary of the interview on the Daily Mail website, Trump also stated that he viewed people wearing masks in public as a signal of disapproval of him, not an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Trump has only been seen wearing a mask in public once, prior to an appearance at a Ford Motor Co. plant. “I sort of liked the way I looked, I thought it was OK,” Trump commented. “It was a dark, black mask and I thought it looked OK. It looked like the Lone Ranger.”
The Lone Ranger, however, wore a mask (with eye holes) over his eyes to disguise his identity; masks used to combat the coronavirus are worn over the nose and mouth to prevent the spread of the virus. Trump did not clarify in the interview if he knew how to properly wear a mask in this pandemic.
