Nearly 1,000 people were reported to have died today from COVID, with daily reported cases topping 55,000 people, according to worldometers.com tracking site.
While the numbers don’t necessarily reflect the number of deaths that happened today because of delays in reporting and the long Independence Day weekend, the 994 deaths recorded were the highest daily total in nearly a month.
This marks the 28th straight day the 7-day running average of new cases increased.
Texas, California and Florida were the top states reporting new cases. California (118) and Arizona (117) recorded the highest number of fatalities.
