In what can only be most generously called a significant faux pas, and what can accurately be called one of the major screw ups of their political careers, two republican Senators posted photos of themselves with the late Congressman Elijah Cummings in tweets honoring John Lewis, reports the New York Times and other outlets.
We now have two GOP senators who've eulogized John Lewis with photos of Elijah Cummings. https://t.co/F3mrjE4AkI

Marco Rubio of Florida and Dan Sullivan of Alaska posted the photos of themselves with Cummings, the Maryland Congressman who died in October of last year.
To be fair, both Cummings and Lewis were male. And bald. And civil rights leaders. Oh, and they’re both Black. But that doesn’t explain how you mix up the identity of someone you actually met.
Needless to say, Twitter won’t let forget Rubio live down his mistake.
