Texas set a new daily high in fatalities, with worldometers recording more than 200 while the official numbers from the state set the figure at 197. Data difference can occur based on when data are reported.
The New York Times reports that the number of hospitalizations due to COVID are nearing all-time highs. According to the Times, 59,628 are currently hospitalized for COVID-related, versus 59,940 on April 15th, when the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were the epicenter of the virus.
The number of new cases in the US is the fifth highest daily total since the pandemic first came to American shores in January. The number of daily fatalities was the highest since May 29th.
