Forty-four percent of parents would send their children back to school for in-classroom instruction, but 55% of American adults oppose schools starting the Fall semester with in-person classes because of the coronavirus risk, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.
Among parents, 59% are concerned that their children may fall behind in their learning and education due to altered school schedules, with 39% not expressing such concern.
The poll shows the highest rate of concern since May about the coronavirus among Americans, at 77%. This corresponds with rising daily new case rates that have surpassed those from the early days of the pandemic.
Demonstrating the partisan split in dealing with the pandemic, 99% of Democrats are concerned about the coronavirus, versus just 52% of republicans.
Only 27% of Americans said they would attend a location that attract groups of people like a bar or a gym, but more were willing to do activities that practice safe social distancing like going to a restaurant (54%) or going to work (74%).
