Coronavirus update: Louisiana takes per capita lead in cases

According to worldometers.info, Louisiana surpassed New York State in the number of coronavirus cases per capita, with Louisiana now registering 23,644 per million. New York, the epicenter of the initial infection, records 22,642 cases per million.

The United States recorded 61,571 new cases Monday, slightly higher than the COVID Tracking Project, which lists 55,134 new cases on Monday. However, the COVID Tracking Project logged 1,059 coronavirus fatalities overnight, versus worldometers showing just 596.

Florida, California and Texas led the nation in both the number of daily new cases and fatalities.
