Walter Schaub, the former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics for Presidents Obama and Trump, has called for public protests at US post offices this Saturday to protest the mismanagement of the agency under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the Washington Post reports.
DeJoy will testify before the House Oversight Committee August 24th to explain his decisions to remove automated mail sorting machines, reduce working hours, and eliminate mailboxes, thereby slowing mail delivery in the run-up to the November elections.
“We’re at the point where we should try a multipronged attack — legal approaches in court, legislative solutions in Congress — but I have greater faith in the people right now than I do in all of these,” Shaub said on a call with civil rights leaders and mail-in voting advocates.
