BREAKING: Former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the widow of Trump antagonist John McCain, Cindy McCain, will address the Democratic National Convention Tuesday night to urge people to vote for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris.
Powell served as Secretary of State under President George W. Bush and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. He was also the National Security Advisor under President Reagan. He was rumored to be part of a republican campaign ticket in the 2008 election, but ultimately opted out of politics.
Cindy McCain will talk about the friendship her late husband had with Biden while they served in the Senate together. President Trump has a particular dislike for John McCain, a Vietnam War Prisoner of War, saying that he “like[d] people who aren’t captured.” McCain also voted against a Senate bill to revoke health care protections afforded by the Obama-era Affordable Care Act, which Trump viewed as a personal attack against him.
